I’ve only mentioned of films meant for Cinematic release (even though I watched most of them on the small screen, or smaller yet on my Laptop); and that too, if they were first released last year, only (doesn’t matter which country they made their debut in; and doesn’t matter if I saw them last year itself, or more recently, within the last two months of 2018). Plus, I have only listed Feature films, no Short films, like In a Heartbeat (2017), No-One (2017) and The Colour of his Hair (2017); to name a few. Neither have I added any Television Anthology series (where a one season is considered a “Limited Series”; thus like a loooong movie) like, ‘Season1’ of Feud (2017 onwards) or ‘Season3’ of Fargo (2014 onwards) for instance (which were both excellent shows, by the way), or any other TV series released in 2017, like 13 Reasons Why (2017 onwards), for example! Nor have I mentioned any mini-series/TV movies of documentaries, from last year. So far, from this year’s releases, I’ve only watched Padmaavat (2018), and that was a way way way over top, disappointment.
So, like most of you, my fellow film fanatics; am really looking forward to watching the 90th Annual Academy Awards, LIVE; on 5th March 2018, early morning (on this side of the Globe)!!!!!
May the Best Picture win!!!!!

I’ve only seen two of these films, Dunkirk and The Space Between Us, and I completely agree with your ranking of each. It’ll be fascinating to see who wins, as it always is. 🙂
Dunkirk was a wonderful movie, I hope it wins for Best Director & Best Cinematography!!
Oscars are tonight,
AND am Really looking forward to catching it LIVE (that is tomorrow early in the morning, on this side of the globe).
Call Me By Your Name, deserves to win for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay and Original Song!!
Gary Oldman, should (and most probably will) grab the award for Best Actor; and Loving Vincent, ought to be given the trophy for Best Animated Picture!!!!
I used to have a big thing for Michelle Pfeiffer when I was a kid but looking back on it now she is not really all that or my cup of tea. I’m interested in meaty women now with brown skin. It is amazing what psychological implications can have on you when you grow and travel and see true natural beauty in other countries.
That’s a good analysis. I never had a big thing for Pfeiffer; but I generally like her, she’s a good actress. She’s proved it in some notable roles.
I’ve been a fan of Audrey Hepburn; not just for her beauty, and great sense of style; but also for her humanitarian efforts. She gave so much for people. Such a genuine personality. There are a lot of celebrities who happen to be philanthropists today; but quite a few do it, just ’cause everyone does it, and simply by donating money (just ’cause they have so much). Not necessarily with a genuine desire to help humanity; more to get into good books with their fans!!!
Yeah it is a bit like some of those religious people for example: When I was living in Central Asia some Christian organisation helped out an orphanage in God’s name, which is all noble and I want to believe the cause was noble however I found out from some in that group that they helped only to get back the tax money in the US.
… and sometimes they help, just to get people to covert. I know, wrong ideologies.
Does such things happen in Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka is a Very Corrupt country. Not just politically, but in every way possible. From the Big Man to the Little Man, this country is infested with negativity. So yes, it happens here too. Just the world doesn’t know about it.
Paradise, it definitely is not!! 👎🏿👎🏿
I’m sorry to hear that brother. I am in Cambodia right now and the corruption is the highest I have ever seen maybe the worst in all the 3rd world countries. I cannot wait to finish my contract and get the hell out of here.
Oh!! Where are you from?
I am from the UK but my job takes me around the world and in many cases extremely poor countries and interestingly some of these countries have very fair and interesting laws that do protect the people. Cambodia is just a 1 out of many poor countries that does not support the will of the people at all. I cannot type anymore things about it because the government here watches everything best to go back to the UK and blog the shit out of it later. hahahahahaha. Lol
Interesting!!! I wonder whether you are in the diplomatic service. That would be really cool. I’ve lived around myself; one due to studies (New Delhi, India; Luton, UK; Sydney, Australia), with a work visa (Portsmouth & London, UK) and also due to my dad’s diplomatic missions (New Delhi, India; Oslo, Norway & Paris, France). I was born in New Delhi, India; as my parents worked at All India Radio (Sinhala service), back then.
There, my mini-bio!!
I am a Principal Director of 2 schools, after a year or 2 I am called away to other schools in the world to mange them and help them with marketing plans and school policies, it is a cool job to have at just 31 years old. My wife is into all that Embassy stuff and does a lot of travelling. I knew there was something about you, I could tell because you seem like an educated and cultured young man with some good insight into logic. I was in Delhi but really did not like it, but still I did enjoy the food there, I think Indian food and oil based perfumes are the best in the world. I love those incense sticks. Luton is a bit crap too lol. A lot of alcoholics there so it’s not just developing counties that sometimes sucks but even some Western cities too. I love Kazakhstan Astana. It is really clean, tidy and developed and not so many people. Beijing was OK but will move to the South of China soon this year once my contract is over. Just a bit about myself.
First of all thank you for the lovely compliment.
Speaking of Indian food, I think I mentioned it before, I LOVE Indian Cuisine (especially North Indian). I can very well understand why you don’t like Delhi and Luton. India itself has a lot of corruption, religious extremists et al; BUT I definitely prefer it to Sri Lanka (SL is not even last on my list – of places to be). Mainly ’cause Lankans have troubled me sooooo much (and various other reasons as well). Plus, I have some nice memories of living in New Delhi. Had an international upbringing. I studied at The British School there, for a short time, before coming to live in hell (umm, I mean Lanka).
Luton too, I detested living in. Had a lot of problems with Indians there (specifically South Indians), including some flatmates; but I loved my course (I did an M.A. in International Cinema). Plus, I ended having a great friend and flatmate from Poland (we both went through sooo much problems, because the other flatmates, with Indian roots, and their friends). She (my Polish friend); happens to be the best flatmate I ever had.
Speaking, overall, the best flatmates I had were down under. But, speaking of, in terms of one individual; my Polish friend is the best flatmate one could ever ask for.
I’m 42 by the way, and will turn 43, end of next month. So am not that young. Ha!! In fact ageist Lankans have insulted me, for being too old, as well.
Wish you all the best, with your next posting, in Southern China.
42 Bloody hell!!!! I thought you were just a kid maybe no older than your early 20s those North Indian curries must of really helped you out big time. Yeah people from Poland and Eastern Europe overall are very loyal as friends even here in phnom Penh I have a Hungarian neighbour who is a very respectable and dignified man who hates heavy drinking and going with prostitutes at the message place he is a rare find indeed so my company here in Cambodia is a very few who wish not to break the law. However most foreigners in this country do break the law and that is the reason they are here hence corruption. Back in England I moved to Birmingham and did a PhD on Clinical Psychology, I was never looking to teach this subject or even to become a psychologist as my field was education just thought I could brings this research to the educational field since I deal with children with autistic spectrum and Bipolar disorder. Brother don’t take any nonsense from those Sri Lankan guys, these people have not travelled to 1 tenth of the geographical ground you have. I will be keeping my eyes open for your next posts.
Ha!! Cheers!! Yup, I try my best to avoid ignorant people!!
You work with kids with autism and bipolar disorder; that’s really nice. Says a lot about you, what a kind personality you must be, taking care of such kids.
So far, I’ve adopted two stray dogs, thrown out on the streets to die, when they were pups. But, someday, when I can, I’d love to adopt a kid, or two, or more. So many unwanted kids in the world; that need care.
Yeah here in Cambodia I have taken in many stray little kittens with no mum I nurse them get them dewormed, vaccinated, grow them to be big and strong and give them away to western families who will stay in Cambodia long term. After being financially stable inshallah (God Willing) I was thinking to adopt a child with my wife because this whole world is full of unwanted kids that to be honest never asked to be born and in 3rd world countries people are sooooooo mega poor but not putting anything on the end of it (breeding). If I was living in a hut why the hell would I bring 8 kids in this world it makes no God damn sense to me and pisses me off. Africa and many places in Asia the attitude is all the same to me. sorry for the rambling brother its just how I feel.
No, no, that’s OK!! We understand each other perfectly!!
Keep up the Good Work!! 🙂
